David Raya has an ‘awkward’ tattoo that makes Arsenal fans uncomfortable

Soon to be Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has an awkward tattoo that is sure to turn some heads at his prospective new club, as it commemorates an Arsenal defeat.

David Raya is all but set to join the Gunners from Brentford this summer, with Thomas Frank more or less confirming the news in his pre-match press conference: “I expect the deal to be completed with Arsenal.

“He is not here at the moment and he won’t be involved on Sunday [against Tottenham].”

According to talkSPORT, the goalkeeper will join Arsenal on loan with the option to make the move permanent for a reported fee of £30 million if agreed upon by all parties.

Though it’s possible that neither his future colleagues nor Arsenal supporters will be the biggest admirers of the tattoo he has on the back of his neck.

The dates 13-08-21 are permanently engraved on the Spanish international as a tribute to Brentford’s inaugural Premier League game.

On the first day of the 2021/22 Premier League season, the Bees defeated Arsenal 2-0 at home in what was a really historic match for the club.

Raya then got the date permanently inked onto his body as it also marked his first top-flight clean sheet, which was a touching sentiment while he was playing under Thomas Frank.

But his pending move to North London could make it an awkward feature to bring up.

The 27-year-old has played 161 times across all competitions since joining Brentford in 2019, including 62 Premier League games.

Last season, Raya participated in all 38 of Brentford’s Premier League games and guided the team to the highest-ever ninth-place finish in the league.

The shot-stopper is set to become Arsenal’s fourth summer signing, following the captures of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber.
