Real Madrid has a formidable roster that is bursting with young talent, and they have opened the season with a convincing 2-0 victory.
But in the Santiago Bernabeu, a serious issue is simmering below the surface.
Luka Modric unhappy at Real Madrid
A recent article from Mundo Deportivo claims that not everyone is pleased with the structural upheaval Real Madrid is now undergoing.
Luka Modric seems to be dissatisfied with his position at the Bernabeu at the moment. The midfielder signed a contract extension prior to the start of the season in the aim of staying an important member of the squad.
Modric hasn’t exactly had a major role since, though. The Croat was little utilised by head coach Carlo Ancelotti even during preseason.
The Italian mastermind has instead placed his trust in up-and-comers like Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, and Eduardo Camavinga.
January exit possible for Modric
Modric’s breaking point came with Ancelotti’s team selection for the regular-season opener against Athletic Club.
As Real Madrid started with young players, the Croatian international and Toni Kroos were placed on the sidelines.
Only the final ten minutes of the game were allowed for Modric to enter the game. It was a significant setback for the veteran, who now reportedly regrets his extension at Bernabeu.
If things don’t get better soon, Modric might consider leaving the Bernabeu during the winter transfer window.
However, Ancelotti recently reassured both Kroos and Modric that their situation may change week to week, dropping a hint that he might seek out more rotations as the season goes on.
