Roy Keane said that Manchester United “are the new Spurs” after their 2-0 loss to Tottenham.
Pape Matar Sarr and Lisandro Martinez each scored goals to help Ange Postecoglou win his first Premier League game. Martinez also scored an own goal.
Roy Keane ripped into Manchester United
The Red Devils were comprehensively beaten by Tottenham
52-year-old Keane praised Spurs as “lovely” but only after criticizing the Red Devils.
After the game, the Irishman yelled on Sky Sports, “Man United are the new Spurs. Desperate. Absolutely in need.
“Teams and players that aren’t capable of performing well away from home, to me, are the worst insults.
“They’re a good team, they fancy it when their home fans are in front of them, they’ve got that support and energy. United go away today.
“Second half, weak, no leadership, gave bad goals away. Spurs were lovely. All credit to them. It’s easy to play against Man United also.”
.
Keane wasn’t finished there, also laying into Red Devils forwards Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
He continued: “I said before the game they were poor against Wolves but they got the result and will be better today. They weren’t.
“They were fine in the first half an hour but the game is over 90 minutes. You’re not going to dominate that long but you’ve got to show some belief, desire, fight.
“They’re bringing on Martial – you might as well bring on Frank Stapleton and Norman Whiteside. Martial is not going to get you out of trouble.
.
“Rashford played through the middle again. Usual stuff. He’s like a child up there. He’s obviously not happy playing there. His body language and his first few touches suggest he doesn’t want to play through the middle.
“But you have to. You’ve got to do a job for the team. You’re looking at the captain, the senior players, established international players – easy to play against. That’s the biggest insult I can give to these Man United players.”
He later went on to add that Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes looked like “schoolboys”.
.
Gary Neville was also scathing of United in commentary.
He said: “Manchester United were out-played, out-fought, missing in midfield, not good enough up front and at the back they gave away goals.
“Well done to Spurs. Manchester United have a lot of work to do.”
On Tottenham’s new dawn, the 48-year-old added: “There will be some thrills here this season under Postecoglou.”
