In a music video by Colombian rapper Maluma, who has paid homage to the World Cup hero in his new song, Lionel Messi can be seen.
At the team’s DRV PNK Stadium, Messi, 36, makes an appearance wearing his Inter Miami jersey and presents the performer with a trophy before hugging him.
The song’s release was announced by Maluma on Instagram with the caption “A tribute to the greatest LEO MESSI” and a goat symbol.
The footage appears to have been shot on August 4. On that particular day, the musician uploaded a wide variety of images from the stadium in Miami to his Instagram.
He tweeted pictures of Messi signing a Miami jersey for him to retain and also posed for a photo with the Barcelona star. He was also given a Miami jersey that said “Maluma.” Maluma looks to be a huge soccer lover and has previously posted photos on social media wearing the Colombia national team’s jersey.
The Leagues Cup final between Miami and Nashville was decided on penalties, and Messi, who has had a fast-paced start to life in the United States, was the hero.
He also led his Miami club on Wednesday night into the US Open Cup final, where they will meet Houston Dynamo on September 27.
In that nail-biting match on Wednesday, Messi recorded two assists, both times assisting Leonardo Campana in scoring, to force extra time.
He scored a penalty there, advancing Miami to its second Cup final in as many weeks.
On Saturday, Messi will play in his first-ever MLS road game against the New York Red Bulls, continuing his transition to life in the United States.
Maluma is a hugely popular Latin Grammy Award-winning musician who has amassed 63 million Instagram followers in addition to having a number of top singles in the region.
Messi stated in a statement last week that he was moved by how warmly Miami has welcomed him and his family.
At a press conference, he added, “It’s been an impressive welcome that we’ve received from the beginning, from my arrival.”
“As of right now, I can assure you that I am really satisfied with the choice we made. I just came here to play and continue to enjoy football,”
‘He’s at the level of his career where he’s done all that a soccer player can accomplish in a sport, as one of the greatest players, if not the greatest player to ever play the game,’ remarked Messi, a co-owner of Miami, in July, according to David Beckham.
He must still be hungry. He was on the practice field, as I recall. He’s still hungry, I know that.
