Even though the LA Galaxy and Inter Miami haven’t played each other this season, LA Galaxy star Riqui Puig is eager to take on Lionel Messi’s team.
The former FC Barcelona midfielder lauded Inter Miami’s summer business, which included signing Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba to the MLS team, in an interview with Sport.
Puig has been in America for a year already after deciding unexpectedly to join the Galaxy after leaving Barcelona. At age 23, the athlete is still very much capable of competing in the top leagues in Europe.
But now that Messi is a member of the MLS, further signings similar to Puig’s could be made, as the Argentine superstar raised the league’s profile to incredible heights in his first few weeks at Inter Miami.
When questioned about the possibility of playing against his former Barcelona teammates, Puig expressed his excitement for the match by saying: “I chat to Busquets and Alba every week.
“I am looking forward to playing on the other side of the planet against former teammates and others. Especially Busquets, who was a big assistance to me in the dressing room. Alba, too. They’re going to have a blast in Miami, I suppose.
The main MLS matchup in 2024 may be between Inter Miami and the LA Galaxy.
Given that the two teams are not currently scheduled to face off this season, the match between Inter Miami and the Galaxy next year may already be considered one of the biggest in MLS history.
If Messi keeps playing well and the big names start knocking on the door, Inter Miami will likely surpass all other clubs in the Major League Soccer (MLS) and the game could already be dubbed “The David Beckham Derby.”
And if the scheduling algorithm fails to pair the two teams against one another in 2024, MLS will have missed a chance to play against the Galaxy, the biggest historic team in America.
