CHARLOTTE — Mario González scored his first MLS goal, but it wasn’t enough for LAFC since Scott Arfield scored his first for Charlotte FC shortly after.

On Saturday night, Arfield’s late second-half goal led Charlotte to a come-from-behind 2-1 win against LAFC.

Charlotte’s home record is at 7-1-5 in the past 12 matches (7-9-8, 29 points). In the 29th minute, Charlotte took the lead for good with a goal by Ashley Westwood, her second of the season.

González scored the tying goal for LAFC (11-7-7, 40 points) in the 67th minute on an assist from Dénis Bouanga. This was González’s second career game in which he scored a goal.

In his third start and fourth appearance, Arfield scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute.

Charlotte’s goaltender Kristijan Kahlina made five saves. For LAFC, John McCarthy made three saves.

In August of last year, LAFC gave Charlotte its worst loss with a 5-0 rout. With at least three goals scored in each of its past four victories, LAFC’s record in its last seven matches across all competitions fell to 4-2-1.

Thirteen times this season, LAFC has scored three or more goals, the most in the league.

Charlotte ended a run of three consecutive home draws and now has a record of 2-0-3 in its previous five matches played on its own turf.

On September 3, LAFC welcomes Lionel Messi and Inter Miami (6-14-3, 21 points) to the Coliseum.
