Ghareeb has struggled this season failing to score in his four appearances.

But in the 63rd minute, with Al-Nassr 3-0 up, the infamously goal-hungry Ronaldo presented him with a golden opportunity to break his duck.

Naturally, Ronaldo is Al-Nassr’s go-to penalty taker; in fact, he scored TWICE from the spot in the game’s opening period.

The 38-year-old Manchester United great and his teammate Sadio Mane, who had also scored in the opening period, even took on the role of cheerleaders by urging spectators to back Ghareeb as he stood over the ball.

However, disaster struck as Ghareeb smashed his penalty into the post.

Ronaldo may have regretted his decision as he failed to net again in the 4-0 win, missing the chance of a second hat-trick in the space of a week.

But surprised fans were left praising him on social media for giving the opportunity to score away,

One fan Tweeted: “Cristiano Ronaldo could have scored a hat-trick, but he decided to give his penalty to a struggling teammate instead.

“Remember this next time the media tell you Ronaldo is obsessed with stats and records.”

A second wrote: “My humble goat 🐐.”

A third commented: “King mentality.”

A fourth said: “Ronaldo and Mane asking Al-Nassr fans to support Ghareeb while taking the penalty.”

Mane was also involved in a clash with an Al-Shabab player after contesting for a ball.
