Lionel Messi and Inter Miami Receive Pleas to Avoid Staying at LA Hotel Due to Labor Strike and Reported Security Incident, as MLS Team Gears Up for LAFC Match

Workers at a hotel in Santa Monica are currently on strike, and they have asked Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates to skip the game against LAFC this weekend.

Thousands of hotel employees in the area have gone on strike this summer demanding higher salaries in light of rising housing expenses, and on Wednesday, workers at the Fairmont Miramar in Los Angeles joined them by picketing outside the hotel.

The union that represents the staff, Unite Here Local 11, released a statement earlier this month saying that hotel security had begun “violently attacking their own employees.”

Inter Miami will be spending the weekend at the hotel, according to a representative who talked with Mail Sport.

The following statement was made by Unite Here Local 11 asking Messi and his crew to find another place to stay.

It has come to our attention that Inter Miami CF, along with the Great Lionel Messi, will be in Los Angeles this week to play LAFC on Sunday. The Fairmont Miramar is one of 13 hotels whose employees went on strike this morning, the statement said.

After security guards at the Fairmont Miramar were seen on camera aggressively beating workers as they tried to set up a picket line two weeks ago, the workers there called for a boycott of the hotel.

We, the housekeepers, chefs, bellhops, and waiters of the Fairmont Miramar, respectfully request that Lionel Messi and his squad not use our establishment.

A representative from Unite Here Local 11 released a video allegedly showing the assaults.

Luxury hotel rooms start at about $500 per night, with ‘bungalows’ costing up to $4,499 per night.

Bungalow One offers a private terrace with furniture, mattresses made from “raw silk and cashmere bamboo,” and 2,500 square feet of space for that price.

In addition to the four Samsung Smart TVs and art collections, guests will also find “personalized bath amenities.”

They need a win this weekend in Los Angeles regardless of whether or not Messi and company remain at the hotel.

Despite winning the Leagues Cup, the club’s first major trophy, the team is presently 10 points adrift of the MLS playoff race with the same number of games remaining.
