Sources have revealed that Al Ittihad would continue their pursuit of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the Saudi Pro League before the transfer market ends in September.
Saudi teams have till September 20th to sign new players since the Pro League’s transfer window is longer than those of Europe’s top divisions. That gives Al Ittihad roughly three more weeks to attempt to negotiate a contract with Salah.
It has been reported that Salah wants to go to Saudi Arabia, but the biggest obstacle to a potential transfer is Liverpool’s reluctance to allow him go without first securing a successor. At least their front line is deep, with players like Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez available.
If Liverpool accepts Al Ittihad’s bid, it would be the most expensive transfer in club history and the largest sale in British history, surpassing the original £116m (before add-ons) that the Reds received with the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona at the beginning of 2018.
Should Salah leave, he will also overtake Cristiano Ronaldo of Al Nassr as the most paid player in sport.
Liverpool has been adamant that they are not interested in selling Salah, but informed sources have stated that a deal is still possible.
