Dominik Szoboszlai: ‘Mohamed Salah Expresses Desire to Remain at Liverpool

Despite rumors of interest from Saudi Arabia, Liverpool player Dominik Szoboszlai said that Mohamed Salah wants to remain with the club.

On transfer deadline day, Saudi Pro League winners Al-Ittihad reportedly made a £150 million offer for the Egyptian attacker, which the Reds promptly rejected.

However, Saudi Arabian clubs still have until next Thursday to sign new players, and it has been reported that Al-Ittihad would make another attempt at a world-record £200 million bid for Salah. If successful, Salah would become the highest-paid player in the world, earning an estimated £1.5 million a week.

Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group would undoubtedly give serious consideration to such an unusual proposal, with the 31-year-old only under contract at Anfield until 2025, but head coach Jurgen Klopp is adamant about keeping hold of the striker.

Szoboszlai has tried to calm the nerves of Liverpool supporters by saying that he knows Salah wants to stay with the Reds for the time being, and Salah’s agent has repeatedly said that his client is content on Merseyside.

That he remained is great news for us. Naturally, we were talking between ourselves, but he wants to remain, wants to be here, wants to be with us,” Szoboszlai is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.

To quote one of the players: “He stayed and we are really happy, a great player, a great person… we need some guys in the team like him, so we are happy.”

The Reds defeated Aston Villa 3-0 on Sunday, with goals from Szoboszlai and Salah. Szoboszlai opened the scoring with a low shot into the bottom corner after a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner kick.

Before halftime, Liverpool had a commanding lead of two goals thanks to an own goal from Matty Cash. Salah then capped off the onslaught with a close-range strike after Darwin Nunez flicked a corner into his path.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised Salah for putting his future rumors to rest after the former Chelsea striker scored or assisted in each of his previous 10 Premier League games.

Besides fielding queries about it from individuals outside the club, Klopp said, “I didn’t realize a little bit of a distraction in the whole week.”

No one warned me of the possibility of this happening or anything like that, so I have no idea. If they wanted to contact me, I would have gotten a call.

“And Mo didn’t seem preoccupied with anything other than Aston Villa, what with his being in on all the goals. It’s not surprising that he has incredible wealth, yet his wealth is still amazing.

“And on top of that, he has opportunities and (is) engaged in making and establishing and all these things. I’m thrilled to have such a talented player on my squad since he is undeniably among the best in the world.

Salah has scored 188 goals and assisted on 81 more in 309 appearances for Klopp’s side since joining from Roma in 2017, but the Liverpool manager is reportedly worried about losing the Egypt international to a lucrative Saudi move in the upcoming year.
