Getafe slammed as ‘TONE DEAF’ as ex-Man Utd striker Mason Greenwood filmed signing autographs before launch

MASON Greenwood’s loan club Getafe has been slammed as “tone deaf” after the ex Manchester United striker was filmed signing autographs ahead of his launch.

Greenwood can be seen posing for snaps with kids and signing their shirts and footballs in a clip which Getafe posted on Twitter.

One fan has already bought his Greenwood no. 12 shirt

One fan had already got his hands on a replica of Greenwood’s number 12 shirt, which he wore back-to-front as he hugged the striker.

Greenwood will be officially presented to fans along with Getafe’s other summer signings at the Coliseum stadium in Madrid at 7pm local time tonight.

The club’s enthusiastic welcome for Greenwood has been widely slammed on social media.

Popular account Out of Context Football Manager tweeted: “Getafe have to be the most tone deaf club I’ve ever seen in my life. Read the room.”

More than 18 months after his final match for Manchester United, Greenwood practiced with his new team Getafe for the first time today.

In preparation for his anticipated La Liga debut later this month, the attacker was seen working out with his Getafe colleagues.

Greenwood hasn’t participated in full team training in well over a year, but he was recently spotted working out by himself in a park with his father.

It is highly unlikely that Greenwood is match fit – and the snaps of him training suggest he is focusing on strength and conditioning.

Getafe also posted a clip of fans giving Greenwood an ecstatic welcome to the training ground near Madrid.

It was captioned: “We love you Mason Greenwood”.

Greenwood yesterday broke his silence after being pictured holding his Getafe shirt for the first time since his Manchester United exit.

The striker, 21, has been provided with a pathway back to football by the La Liga side.

In a message to fans, he said: “Hi Getafe fans, it’s Mason here.

“I’m so happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

Getafe also posted a snap on Twitter of Greenwood holding up the club’s blue home strip.

It was captioned “Mason Greenwood ya esta aqui” – which means “Mason Greenwood is here”.

GET A FEE

The Spanish club announced the deal just minutes before the summer transfer window deadline arrived on Friday.

United will receive no loan fee and will cover the majority of his £75,000-a-week wage during his time in Spain.

A club statement added: “The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”

Greenwood might wait till Getafe’s match against Osasuna on September 17 to make his debut.

Following an internal investigation into his detention, United had already said that Greenwood and the club had “mutually agreed” to part ways.

He was detained in October of last year, but the Crown Prosecution Service withdrew all charges in February.

Greenwood has two more years to go, and the club has the option of extending it by another year if they so want.

If the club had not been able to sell him, they would have been on the hook for over £8 million.

It comes after new details of Greenwood’s Getafe transfer emerged – including the striker’s kit number and his £75,000-a-week salary.
