ESPN reveals Erik ten Hag’s reaction after Andre Onana made the big decision.
Andre Onana has been left out of Cameroon’s starting lineup for their opening match at the World Cup. After that, he was sent home by coach Rigobert Song because of disagreements about tactics.
Onana returns to Cameroon
The 27-year-old announced his retirement from international football a few weeks later. However, Onana confirmed that he will return to the national team when he is called up to attend the AFCON qualifier against Burundi. Victory for Cameroon will help them attend AFCON, a tournament taking place in January 2024.
That means Onana is at risk of missing 7 Man Utd matches at the beginning of next year. According to ESPN, Erik ten Hag expressed sympathy for his student’s decision because the former Inter Milan star wanted to play against Burundi on Saturday.
FCON will take place in Ivory Coast on January 13 with the final on February 11. If Cameroon makes it to the final, Onana will miss games against Tottenham, Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa as well as one FA Cup game.
