Jonny Evans scores ‘masterpiece’ on international duty while Rasmus Hojlund was unable to score for Denmark

MANCHESTER UNITED fans think they already have the perfect backup striker in their ranks after Jonny Evans scored a stᴜnning goal for Northern Ireland.

The 35-year-old centre-back has just re-joined United on a one-year deal after spending eleven years with the club between 2004 and 2015.

But after scoring a fantastic goal while serving his country, United supporters feel that he is being squandered as a defender.

Evans was participating for his squad in a Euro 2024 qualifying match between Slovenia and Northern Ireland.

The man, a former West Brom and Leicester player, took the ball down beautifully inside the area with a finesse move.

He sent the ball into the top corner after switching to his right foot to dodge the defender in front of him, but it was positively deflected by a Slovenian player.

The out-of-character goal wasn’t lost on Red Devils supporters, who posted on social media that Evans ought to be starting up front for them.

One said: “Back up striker sorted.”

Whilst another added: “Stick him up front.”

Evans’ goal comes on the same night that United flop Wout Weghorst also bagged for his country, while their new £72million signing Rasmus Hojlund drew a blank when he came on for Denmark against San Marino.

Rival fans were quick to tease United supporters about the unfortunate chain of events.

One fan wrote: “Weghorst is better than Hojlund.”

A second added: “No way!! United really cursed him!”

Another piled in by saying: “Man United were the problem, not Weghorst.”
