Mohamed Salah Stays at Liverpool as Saudi Transfer Window Closes

The transfer window for the Saudi Pro League ended on Thursday, therefore Mohamed Salah will be staying at Liverpool for the foreseeable future.

ESPN claimed last week that Liverpool turned down a $190 million (£150 million) approach from Al Ittihad for the Egyptian international player.

Speculation abounded that the Saudi club would try to outbid the other suitors for Salah on the last day of the transfer window, but nothing came of it.

Despite the fact that previous Reds stars Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mané, Fabinho, and Roberto Firmino all signed with Saudi teams this summer, Liverpool has been clear throughout transfer window that Mohamed Salah would not be permitted to leave Anfield.

Manager Jurgen Klopp repeated the club’s position after Salah scored in Sunday’s 3-0 victory against Aston Villa, saying that the 31-year-old was totallycommitted to the Premier League club.

“He didn’t tell me [if he wants to stay], but he didn’t have to,” Klopp told reporters after the game. He makes his point via discipline, performance, and demeanor. This week, we held meetings, and rather of discussing previous accomplishments, we discussed future plans.

As one source put it, “Mo was with the players’ [leadership] committee and had his moments where he was talking, and there was nothing like ‘by the way, this is only until next week’ or whatever.”

When the transfer market reopens in January, Salah’s future may once again be a topic of discussion.

After the international break, he will likely play for Liverpool against Wolves.

Salah’s presence was expected to dominate the Saudi transfer window, but it closed without a major splash. Demarai Gray moved from Everton to Al Ettifaq, while Luiz Felipe went from Real Betis to Al Ittihad.

The winger for Manchester United, Jadon Sancho, was also rumored to be leaving, but his transfer did not occur.

Even without a last-minute agreement for Salah, the $1 billion spent by Saudi teams this summer transfer window has been magnificent.
