Maguire played the entirety of the fixture in the Three Lions’ back four and twice went close to scoring a winning goal at the other end – via two unsuccessful second-half headers – but the points were shared at full-time in the Group C clash, played in Poland.

Rashford was introduced in the 65th minute as England tried to complete a turnaround, after Manchester City defender Kyle Walker’s equaliser had cancelled out Ukrɑine’s opener from Arsenal man Oleksandr Zinchenko, but the game would go on to finish level.

Despite Ukrɑine having a game in hand, the outcome keeps Gareth Southgate’s team six points ahead of their most recent opponents in the standings.

Elsewhere, Victor Lindelof captained Sweden to an important victory over Estonia, in their hopes of qualifying for next summer’s tournament in Germany.

Our number two goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes for his country while they were away from home, contributing to the clean sheet in a 5-0 victory that saw goals from Viktor Gyokeres, Dejan Kulusevski, Alexander Isak, Robin Quaison, and Viktor Claesson.

The victory reduces Sweden’s gap to four points and moves them three points closer to Group F’s two automatic qualification berths, Belgium and Austria.
