In a Euro 2024 Group A qualifier today, Spain defeated bottom-place Cyprus 6-0 behind two goals from Ferran Torres, with Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal starting for his nation at the age of 16 years and 61 days.
When Yamal of Spain made his debut in a 7-1 victory over Georgia on Friday, he set a new record for his nation’s youngest player and goal scorer.

But Spain’s goals in the first half, came through assists by another talented young winger, Athletic Bilbao’s 21-year-old Nico Williams.
The first goal for Spain came from Gavi in the 18th minute, while the second came from Mikel Merino 15 minutes later. Both goals came from crosses by Williams, who moments before had a close-range shot stopped by goalie Joel Mall.
In the 70th minute, substitute Joselu scored the third goal with a header, and close-range goals from Torres, Alex Baena, and Torres again sealed Spain’s rout.
After four games, Spain is second in Group A with nine points. They have a game left but are six points behind Scotland, who are in first place.
