Mason Greenwood was removed from the Getafe squad after creating positive effects

Through Mundo Deportivo, Getafe coach Jose Bordalas revealed the reason why Mason Greenwood was not in the squad for the match against Osasuna.

Greenwood joined the Liga team on the last day of the 2023 summer transfer window amid a major controversy over the player’s return to playing football.

The England international has been suspended since early last year pending an investigation into allegations of intentionally assaulting his girlfriend.

With the police dropping the charges, the 21-year-old still faces public outcry. Therefore, Greenwood had no choice but to leave Man Utd and move to Getafe.

At the new team, Greenwood created a positive effect. This player also has quite good training sessions. However, Greenwood was left out in the match against Osasuna in round 5 of La Liga.

Explaining this problem, coach Jose Bordalas said:

“It is a great hope and there is a great expectation to see him,” he said.

“He has been a year and a half without competing, unemployed, and he is in that period of adaptation and catching up with his teammates. You have to be patient and take care of him.

“We have to be patient, calm and tranquil.

“We know the potential and the level he has…his teammates are helping him a lot. The locker room has welcomed him with open arms, like the rest of the new players, and everyone has felt the warmth of the group.”

Greenwood’s chances of playing for United once more seem slim, even if he is able to restart his career at Getafe.

In a year, the Old Trafford club anticipates that his development and gradual reintroduction will increase the number of clubs interested in his services and the sum of money they are willing to pay for him.

This unfortunate situation, involving one of the most promising young people to have ever come out of United’s academy, can never have a happy conclusion, but for United, receiving any type of monetary recompense will lessen the impact of losing the gifted forward.
