Mason Greenwood was removed from Getafe squad despite training well

Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas explained Mason Greenwood’s absence from the lineup for the game against Osasuna through Mundo Deportivo.

On the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window, Greenwood signed with the Liga team amidst a significant uproar regarding the player’s decision to resume playing football.

The England international has been suspended since early last year pending an investigation into allegations of intentionally assaulting his girlfriend.

With the police dropping the charges, the 21-year-old still faces public outcry. Therefore, Greenwood had no choice but to leave Man Utd and move to Getafe.

At the new team, Greenwood created a positive effect. This player also has quite good training sessions. However, Greenwood was left out in the match against Osasuna in round 5 of La Liga.

Getafe have sold more shirts with Mason Greenwood's name on the back in a week than they have for any player in the club's history

Explaining this problem, coach Jose Bordalas said:

“It is a great hope and there is a great expectation to see him,” he said.

“He has been a year and a half without competing, unemployed, and he is in that period of adaptation and catching up with his teammates. You have to be patient and take care of him.

“We have to be patient, calm and tranquil.

“We know the potential and the level he has…his teammates are helping him a lot. The locker room has welcomed him with open arms, like the rest of the new players, and everyone has felt the warmth of the group.”

Even if Greenwood is able to resume his career at Getafe, it seems unlikely that he would ever play for United again.

The Old Trafford club expects that after a year of growth and gradual reintroduction, other clubs will be interested in his talents and be willing to pay more for him.

Despite the unfavorable circumstances surrounding one of the most promising young athletes to have ever graduated from United’s academy, obtaining any kind of financial compensation will help United cope with losing the talented forward.
