Bruno Fernandes ended up playing at centre-back

Manchester United fans faced more humiliation during their clash with Brighton – aside from shipping three goals at home – as Bruno Fernandes was left playing centre-back.

United were chasing the game against the Seagulls, and fans inside the stadium had already started to turn against Erik ten Hag when he subbed off Rasmus Hojlund.

And that discontent moved online, when eagled-eyed football fans spotted the Dutchman had deployed Fernandes – who had been their creative output – as a central defender.

“Bruno Fernandes, our most creative player playing as right centre back…state of this club right now,” one fan fumed.

While a second shared: “He lost me when he subbed Hojlund off and played Bruno at centre-back!”

“Bruno Fernandes was playing Centre Back. I’m tired,” a third said.

And another added: “Rangnick made some crazy decisions but have any been as bad as Maguire up top and Bruno centre back?”

Man Utd fans couldn’t believe Bruno Fernandes was playing so deep

Before the Red Devils could lay a glove on the Seagulls, Brighton had played United off the field and was cruising with three goals to their credit.

With a rocket of a shot, young Hannibal Mejbri scored for United, but Brighton pushed for a fourth goal and it was all they could muster. Ansu Fati, who arrived on the South Coast from Barcelona on Transfer Deadline Day, came close to bringing them success.

United have already lost two of their first five Premier League games, dropping them into the bottom half of the standings.
