After Mason Greenwood made his Getafe debut while wearing Nike boots, the company’s position was made known.
On the final day of the transfer window, the 21-year-old Manchester United player agreed a loan deal with La Liga after an internal review determined it would be better for him to continue his career elsewhere.
Numerous teams declined to sign the forward, which gave Getafe the opportunity to make the contentious transfer.
Greenwood, wearing No. 12, made his first appearance on a football pitch since his arrest in January 2022 as Getafe overcame Osasuna 3-2 with a late winner.
Despite Nike dropping Greenwood when he was accused of attempting to rape a woman, acting in a dominating and coercive manner, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm, he did so while wearing Nike boots.

Even after the charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023, Nike stated that Greenwood was no longer employed by the business.
Greenwood has been spotted exercising for Getafe despite wearing sneakers that are seven years old because Nike has not given him any new boots.
The Nike Mercurial Superfly 4 boots he debuted in were the identical ones that were made available as part of the Radiant Reveal set in 2016.
Nike, though, insist that there is absolutely no connection. “The assertion is still accurate. Nike no longer considers Mason Greenwood to be an athlete, a spokeswoman informed GBNews.
A mixed response was received when Greenwood was substituted in for the team in the second half. Getafe supporters reportedly chanted “Greenwood, die” while away end supporters applauded him.
The next EA Sports FC 24 game will feature the England international, but he won’t be part of the Ultimate Team mode, it has been confirmed.
He’s anticipated to appear in Football Manager 24 as well.
