‘REALLY BAD’ – Liverpool received stunning news about Cody Gakpo after colliding with Tottenham player

Gody Gakpo could be set for a spell on the sidelines after the Liverpool forward left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium wearing a leg brace.

Liverpool fell to a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday night with Gakpo on the scoresheet to level the contest just before half-time.

Gakpo suffered the injury just before equalising for his side

Jurgen Klopp’s side were reduced to nine men in a frantic contest where a Joel Matip own goal sealed the win for Spurs deep into added time. Luis Diaz saw a first half goal ruled out for offside, with the PGMOL since releasing a statement confirming his effort was incorrectly chalked off due to a ‘significant human error’ during the VAR review.

Liverpool’s woes were further compounded by Gakpo’s injury, with the Netherlands international leaving the stadium with his right knee in a brace.

Gakpo picked up the knock in a challenge from Destiny Udogie just before scoring his goal, immediately limping away after hitting the back of the net.

He will undergo a scan to determine the severity of the problem.

Gakpo limped away as his teammates tried to celebrate with him

‘Cody is now with a brace limping down the corridor,’ Jurgen Klopp said in his post-match press conference.

‘That’s my biggest problem, to be honest, in this moment. We lost two players [to red cards] and maybe a third player [to injury], really bad.

‘He scored a goal but after that shot he felt it even more. It was from the foul before.’

Gakpo was absent when Liverpool faced Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League and the match with Brighton in the Premier League. The 24-year-old star also missed two rounds of EURO 2024 qualifying matches in October when the Netherlands faced France and Greece.

Liverpool faces a personnel problem at the moment. In addition to Gakpo, coach Jurgen Klopp did not have the services of duo Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota when both received red cards in the recent loss to Tottenham.

After 7 Premier League rounds, Liverpool ranked 4th on the rankings, winning 16 points, two points behind defending champion Man City.
