Geraldine Gilliland, a chef and cookbook author, has given her Malibu mountain home to its new owner. It took more than a year for her to sell the house for $18 million. Public records show that Drederick Irving, the father of Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving and a former college and professional basketball player, paid $10.7 m²II for the property, which is about $7.4 m¹II less than the original asking price.
The 40-acre property, called “Rancho Chiquita,” has been used for a wedding and party, as well as filming for “The Voice” and by a non-profit dog rescue since Gilliland, the owner of Santa Monica’s Lula Cocina Mexicana restaurant, bought it. Since then, she has bought more land. The gated complex now has a main house in the hacienda style and a detached home. It is all on a 225-acre property with views of the ocean and mountains.
The main house has a brick and terracotta roof and over 6,700 square feet of living space over two floors. The floors are a mix of Saltillo tile and parquet, and there are arched doors and clerestory windows all over. The living room and formal dining room both have fireplaces on the main level. There is also a gourmet kitchen with granite countertops, an eat-in island with built-in wine storage, high-end stainless appliances, a walk-in closet, and a breakfast alcove.
The bedrooms are spread out in two separate wings of the house. One wing has a master retreat with an ocean view that includes a custom fireplace, private patio, large cedar-lined walk-in closet, separate sitting room with a fireplace, loft space, and a luxurious bathroom that leads to a terrace with a spa. The other wing has two bedrooms on the main level that lead to an outdoor palapa and a staff/guest suite on the lower level with two bedrooms, an office, living room, and kitchen.
The luxurious grounds outside have a pool and spa with an infinity edge, a kitchen and bar, and many places to relax and have parties outside, such as a grassy area that can fit up to 250 people. There is a garage for three cars and parking for at least twenty cars. There is also a separate service entrance with a gate that leads to a big motor court and an area for setting up for events.
