The stunning piece, which has over 450 diamonds set in it, was the center of attention on Monday during an auction in Atlantic City.
Jay-Z’s outstanding collection of watches now includes one less timepiece.
On October 2, during Hov’s celebrity-studded casino night and auction to support his Reform Alliance charity at Atlantic City’s Ocean Casino Resort, the Brooklyn rapper’s diamond-studded Jacob & Co. watch just went for a cool $1.5 million. The sophisticated event, which collected an estimated $24 million for the charity that assists formerly incarcerated people in reintegrating into society and the workforce, was emceed by comedian Kevin Hart. Over 250 VIPs, including Kim Kardashian and Tom Brady, attended the event, but the real show stealer of the night was the blinged-out wrist candy.
Jay-Z’s previous 47.5 mm watch, known as the Caviar Tourbillon World Timer, was made of 18-carat white gold and had a crazy 204 baguette diamonds set into the dial. If you were in the mood for even more bling, there are 294 baguettes spread across the watch’s bezel, case, and bracelet. On the watch face, three globe timers with city names like Los Angeles, Geneva, and Dubai accompany the manual-winding tourbillon. With an exhibition caseback showcasing its multi-colored “Rainbow” tourbillon movement, the piece boasts an astounding 120-hour power reserve. A stylish navy-blue strap completes the ensemble.
Although the buyer of the watch has not yet been identified, judging by the guest list, they most likely rank highly. Images from the event included Jay-Z among other founding board members of the Reform Alliance, including Michael Rubin, Meek Mill, Clara Wu Tsai, Mike Novogratz, and Reform CEO Robert Ross. Attendees included other celebrities like Travis Scott, LaLa Anthony, Tiffany Haddish, Lil Kim, Matthew McConaughey, and Jack Harlow.
Rappers French Montana and Fabolous took the stage dressed in black tie as the evening’s entertainment. In the absence of a performance, Jay-Z’s black jacket with a graphic design made a statement, even though he declined to take the stage after them.
