Discovering Dr. Dre’s $20 Million Slice of Paradise on the Sought-After Carbon Beach in Malibu

The renowned rapper, hitmaker, Beats entrepreneur, and general tycoon Dr. Dre is bidding adieu to his beachfront holiday house of almost two decades. The 57-year-old Compton native is openly asking $20 million for the Malibu property, which was formerly owned by his ex-wife Nicole Young.

Dre will still earn handsomely even if the mansion sells for a steep discount; he paid about $4.8 million for it in 2000, and in the 22 years that have passed, Malibu real estate values have increased dramatically. Situated on a nearly 7,000-square-foot lot on Carbon Beach in Malibu, which has developed as one of the city’s most expensive areas, the three-story mansion is particularly noteworthy.

A “contemporary beach estate” that “exudes total luxury and sophistication” is how the property is defined. Built in the early nineties, the opulent house features floor to ceiling glass windows that let in an abundance of natural light and provide views of the rapids in every room. The entrance door enters into a small lobby that takes visitors to a large great room that is ideal for entertaining. It has a stunning stone fireplace, sliding glass doors that open to a balcony overlooking the ocean, a courtyard-style entry, hidden gates, and a sophisticated security system.

Other open-concept living areas include an executive office, a recording studio, a large gym, five guest bedrooms, a primary closet with a sauna, a primary bedroom with carpeting, a fireplace, a sitting area, and a private balcony. With a living space of around 9,000 square feet, this is one of the biggest Carbon Beach residences.

This isn’t the first time Dre has tried to sell his Malibu vacation home, which is a 5-minute walk from Nobu Malibu and was occupied by Nicole Young during the couple’s contentious divorce. A decade ago, the Pacific Coast Highway property was on the market for a few months with asking prices ranging from $11 million to $12.5 million.

Dre and Young divorced in December; he supposedly gave her a $100 million lump sum but kept all of the marital properties for himself, including the $40 million Brentwood villa he bought from Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, two mansions in Calabasas, and a Malibu mansion. His current net worth is $400 million, according to Forbes.

Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency is the owner of the listing.
