Veteran film director Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day,” “Southpaw,” “The Equalizer”) has bought a brand-new modern farmhouse in the exclusive Hidden Hills gated community, even though the scandal involving Will Smith’s character in “Emancipation” has put the production of that movie on hold indefinitely.
The house was built in 2017 and was first offered for just under $11 million. Fuqua and his wife, actress Lela Rochon from “Waiting to Exhale,” bought it for $10.8 million, according to property records.
Now 57 years old and from Pittsburgh, he used to direct music videos. His 1995 video for rapper Coolio’s song “Gangsta’s Paradise” has over a billion views on YouTube. He is now one of Hollywood’s busiest film directors. “Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers,” a docuseries that will start on Hulu on August 15, is one of his most recent projects.
Fans can also look forward to a lot more from the in-demand director in the future. In the past year, Fuqua has made good money by making deals with Paramount and Netflix to make and develop TV shows and movies.
Fuqua’s newly bought home has six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and an open-concept living space that’s about 9,000 square feet and has high ceilings and white oak flooring all over. Additionally, large picture windows with iron frames and walls of sliding glass doors make a smooth flow from indoors to outdoors.
The two-story wood and stone building sits on a 1.2-acre lot with a view of state-owned parks. It is surrounded by a white picket fence and a circular driveway. A four-car garage is tucked away to the side. The foyer has a double-height ceiling, a chandelier hanging from the sky, and a curved iron-rail staircase. It is reached by a custom iron and glass double entry door.
The main floor then has a family room, a casual dining area, and a gourmet kitchen with a large island for eating, a commercial-size refrigerator, and an expensive La Cornue range. There is also a stylish movie theater with a wet bar and a huge linear fireplace, a study, and formal living and dining rooms.
On the second floor, there are four bedrooms with private bathrooms. The master suite is the most luxurious, with a fireplace, minibar, private patio, two walk-in closets, and a bathroom with two vanities, a large oval soaking tub, and a steam shower. The back of the house is very fancy. There is a covered sitting area with a fireplace, a grill area, and a fire pit next to a pool and spa.
The land has a green play area, a two-stall barn with access to horse trails, and a separate poolhouse with a kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom.
