Far from having sympathy with Sancho, the large majority of the squad have grown sick of the situation.

They blame the player and have told him he is in the wrong and needs to apologise to the Dutch boss and get back training with the first team.

They say the ball is completely in the player’s court and must apologise to the manager for effectively calling him a liar in a public statement on social media.

Ten Hag put Sancho’s absence from the first-team squad for the defeat at Arsenal on September 3 down to poor levels of training.

But Sancho posted: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.

“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”

Even though he removed the post, the damage was already done, and he was kicked off the first-team roster.

Ten Hag has had conflicts with Sancho in the past, but they have all been resolved.

But Ten Hag believed that the most recent episode went too far, and the club board recognized his decision to go public.
