The Dutch design company Vripack came up with the idea for Futura, a new 66-meter superyacht that doesn’t use any fossil fuels.
“Slender, efficient, and a third of the height of comparable 66-meter yachts,” Vripack said of the superyacht’s exterior. He was inspired by “animals’ innate ability to freely propel through air and water.”
Aside from that, Vripack talked about the yacht’s “flowing and curvaceous lines,” which “signify a refined femininity.” It has a “cocoon-like superstructure” in other places.
Co-creative director Marnix Hoekstra said, “The egg-shaped superstructure sliced onto a beautiful thin hull has been growing in our minds for more than ten years.”
“The result is lighter than traditional shipbuilding methods and also looks good because it uses a biometric approach to structure.”
The idea’s inside has a “ergonomic flow” with a loft-style split mezzanine layout, large glass surfaces, and Vripack’s famous “shadow versus light” interior design. Modular furniture and a large dining place for 20 people are two important interior features.
As a result of Hoekstra’s announcement at a virtual news conference that the idea is aimed at a “slightly younger audience,” a full DJ booth was set up in the upper deck observation area. The yacht also has a jacuzzi, a big swimming pool, and a place for helicopters to land.
Also, being able to see and see the ocean are big concerns. Bart Bouwhuis, co-creative director, said, “We took great care to make sure visibility from every position on the ship, whether it was from the outside to the inside, the inside to the outside, or another deck.”
A “big crystal palace of glass” was built on top of the hull as a “statement piece” that lets people “see everything on the boat,” according to Bouwhuis.
He said, “In real life, this means that everyone on Futura can be doing their own thing, but you always know where your family and friends are.”
Hoekstra said that the ship has six “beautiful, ample staterooms” that can fit a total of 12 guests and have direct access to the spa and beach club.
Propulsion, on the other hand, only cares about efficiency. The car Futura is called “electric-diesel with a twist,” and it can run on blue diesel alone. Blue diesel is a Finnish biofuel made from food waste. Hoekstra said that blue fuel is already being used in the trucking business.
Also on the boat are “bio-based batteries made from salt, sand, water, and plants,” which break down completely in nature.
In terms of how environmentally friendly the design is, Hoekstra said, “It is up to us and our colleagues to design these vessels in a way that makes them environmentally friendly.”
