Formula E is now available on the high seas thanks to two legendary drivers. Alex Agag and Rodi Basso want to hold the first electric powerboat racing title in the world in 2023. Finally, the two have shown off the ship that will be the basis for the new E1 series.
The 23-foot RaceBird is a powerful boat that was made by SeaBird Technologies and Victory Marine working together. The name comes from the sound of birds flying low over the ocean. Of course, this makes sense since the powerboat has hydrofoil wings that let it rise 1.6 feet above the water and fly at very high speeds. It is also said that this arrangement will lessen disturbances and make things run more smoothly at sea.
The carbon fiber powerboat weighs 1,764 pounds (800 kilograms) when it’s in battle. It has an electric engine in the middle and a single propeller in the middle. It can reach a top speed of 50 knots. Clearly, the electric plane flies quietly, sustainably, and without pollution, just like our feathery friends.
Furthermore, RaceBird has a sleek shape and a future look that would look good in a Star Wars movie. The sealed canopy is found at the back of the ship, just like on a Jedi Starfighter, and the ship carries a lot of “force.”
Along with RaceBird, a whole flock of other rivals will also be there. In the next few months, Victory Marine experts will build a fleet of electric powerboats that are ready to race for the upcoming E1 Series.
In a statement, Victory Marine’s founder and CEO, Brunello Acampora, said, “Now that the design has been fully validated, we will begin engineering and manufacturing the boats in preparation for prototype testing and for the teams to receive their first delivery.”
Both of the founders of the E1 Series have a lot of experience in racing. Most people know Agag for helping to start Formula E and Extreme E. Basso, on the other hand, worked as an engineer in Formula 1 for Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia also backs the show, which will speed up the plans for the first season.
When the E1 Series starts, up to 12 teams will compete on the water in beautiful places around the world. The pilots, who are likely to have experience in both powerboat racing and auto racing, will drive electric powerboats that can reach speeds of up to 50 knots around tight, technical courses.
When will the very first RaceBird fly? It is being made right now, and soon it will be tried on the water. At the Monaco Yacht Show in September, a full-size model will be shown for the first time. Watch over the skies (and seas) with care.
