The 30-year-old had been going through a difficult period until going on a recent streak of excellent play.

And no one was happier than his wife Fern about his goal, which might now kickstart United’s season.

Fern, who has been married to the England star since 2022, took to Instagram to reveаl an adorable note from Maguire’s daughter that read: “Well done daddy goal.”

Maguire was thrilled with the reception he received from an emotionally-charged Old Trafford after the match.

He said: “It is amazing. When you are not on your game it gets picked up, but I am really proud and pleased how I have acted over this six to 12 months.

“I have been given an opportunity and I want to help the team and get the club back to where it should be.”

Manager Erik ten Hag also lavished praise on the former Man United captain.

The Dutchman said: “He’s playing much more proactive in possession, stepping in, passing vertically and defending on the front foot also.

“He is very confident in the duels and I think he’s dominating his opponents.

“You see you get rewarded. He has a very good skill in his heading. I have to sаy a very good pass from Christian [Eriksen] too.”

Maguire’s form could meаn he is in line to start Sunday’s Manchester derby.
