The right-back has spent the better part of the last six weeks confined to the treatment room after sustaining a hamstring ιnjury in the closing stages of Man United’s defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on September 16.

He was only introduced in the 85th minute of the Old Trafford defeat, replacing Argentine centre-back Lisandro Martinez, but still struggled to see out the fixture with a hamstring problem.

Having missed a significant period of action, the former Crystal Palace defender has rejoined the rest of Erik ten Hag’s squad in team training and is close to being available for selection.

Man United expects the defender to miss Sunday’s exciting Manchester derby, but they also hope he can finish the last parts of his rehabilitation within the next 10 days.

The Red Devils’ big match of the weekend is against Manchester City at Old Trafford, then on Wednesday night, they play Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Even if the Manchester derby may come too soon for the right-back, Ten Hag’s club gains a great deal from his injury return.

Since the beginning of the season, the Red Devils have struggled with injuries, particularly in the defensive positions, which has led to their subpar start.

Raphael Varane, Sergio Reguilon, Jonny Evans, Tyrell Malacia, and Wan-Bissaka have all missed time due to injury this season; Luke Shaw and Martinez have been out for an extended period of time.

Wan-Bissaka made five Premier League appearances and contributed one assist before to becoming injured.

Man United welcomes Man City to the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday, but they are aware that even though they have won their past three games, they still have a difficult task ahead of them.
