In a rare start, midfielder Jonny Evans had a forgettable 90 minutes against Man City, according to Sofascore’s assessment.
Last night, Man City showed outstanding strength against Man Utd. Even though goalkeeper Andre Onana made 7 saves for the Red Devils, Erik Ten Hag and his team still left the field with a 0-3 loss.
Clearly, Man Utd’s defenders were unable to mark Man City’s striker Erling Haaland and allowed the Norwegian striker to score a double. In particular, Jonny Evans was given the lowest score in the match by statistical site Sofascore (6.1 points).
Specifically, Evans did not have any successful duels during his 90 minutes on the field. This veteran also only passed 86% accurately and lost the ball 9 times.

Furthermore, Evans’s statistics for tackling, blocking shots, and cutting the ball are all zeros. The only thing Evans did well against Man City was clear the ball four times.
Varane, 30, played a key role in United’s lone derby win in the previous six games, but Ten Hag insisted Evans’ selection was justified.
After the match Erik Ten Hag explained that he wanted to let Harry Maguire play in the right center-back position and then Evans was a possible pairing solution.
Ten Hag said he was wary of the high pressure from The Citizens and did not want to send Harry Maguire into the left position of the central defensive area. Ten Hag emphasized that Maguire plays better in the right position, especially against high-pressure teams.
“They played very well, I think, the center,” Ten Hag explained.
“With (Andre) Onana they played a very good game. Just what I expected.
“When you face City, they will go up to press and then to play with Rapha and Maguire over the left, that can cause problems and then you end up only kicking long balls.
“He is for me, better on the right, Harry, especially against teams pressing high and second is you have to step in over that side and that was our tactic: to step in over (Julian) Alvarez and get Sofyan (Amrabat) higher to get press on their build-up and that’s why.”
United’s defeat to City marked another sobering day in a tumultuous season in which they have lost seven games and won seven games. United are now eight points off the top four in the Premier League.
“Yeah, of course it is disappointing,” Ten Hag acknowledged, “but last year we had many highlights and so far, not now.
