The 56-meter-deep lake is a mix of blue, green, turquoise, and all of those colors. The shade changes depending on where the sun is, how bright it is, and where you are standing.

My wife and I stayed the night to really get to know the lake and its surroundings. A lot of people visit Lake Oeschinen for the day. Only two restaurants are there, and camping is not allowed. However, the nights and mornings can give you the extra privacy you may want.

How to get to Lake Oeschinene

The train ride from Zurich will take about two and a half hours. It took us three hours to get there from Luzern. Make the right plans, especially if you want to hike the loop. We stayed the night, so we were never rushed.From Kandersteg in the valley, the Lake Oeschinen cable car takes you to the Oeschinen mountain station in a short ride. Wait a minute before getting too excited about the lake. You still have work to do. You have to work for some of life’s best things. You can walk two kilometers through the valley to get where you want to go. Each step is worth it. As we walked to the lake, some goats came up to say hello. “Let the goats lead the way; what could go wrong?” I asked myself.

How to do the wide shot Hike around Lake Oeschinen

There are beautiful views of the lake and the Bernese mountains along the 8.5 km panoramic hike around Lake Oeschinen. For first-time hikers, this loop might be too long, but it’s still doable for intermediate hikers like us. It’s likely a stroll in the park for the Swiss. I have seen a woman walking along a cliff with her baby on her back, so this makes sense. (Just seeing her made me nervous.)The loop is said to take three hours to walk. But because there are more and more beautiful camping areas and views, it might take you longer.There are many places to look out in the loop. You may have seen them on social media.
