The traditional way to get in Bur Dubai is via abra river taxi, crossing heavy junks on their route to the Gulf.  Bur Dubai, the oldest area of the city, feels distinct from valeted, pavement-free Downtown Dubai. You’ll adore the lanes encircling Dubai’s solitary Hindu temple, with fabric dealers’ stores, flower garlands booths, and shoe racks. Arrive to the Dubai Creek, where wooden abra boats transport locals.  Explore Dubai’s turn-of-the-century Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood’s oak porticoes after shopping in the Textile Souk for a third off curly-toed slippers or a pashmina.

Visit Burj Khalifa, the world’s highest tower. You’ll walk like a VIP to the heart-stopping 148th-floor observation deck, “At the Top, Burj Khalifa Sky,” instead of taking the lift to the 125th floor. The extra levels, royal queue-jumping (important for short visits), squeezed juices, and luscious dates make it worth the premium.
