Former Liverpool striker Diego Costa gave Botafogo the lead in the 5th minute before Everton equalised for Gremio four minutes later.

However, the hosts then got into a commanding position as Junior Santos and Marlon Freitas netted before half time.

Suarez, 36, then grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck as he sensationally scored in the 50th, 53rd and 69th minute to put Gremio in the lead.

Gremio were able to hold on to their lead and win the game.

Fans hailed the veteran forward on social media as he proved that age is just a number.

One posted: “Luis Suarez still a great footballer at 36.”

A second hailed: “Old but still remain GOLD.”

A third commented: “Man’s always been classic!”

A fourth wrote: “He’s still got it.”

A fifth said: “The best striker ever in the history of football. Forget about R9.”

Another added: “Class is permanent, greatest striker there is. El Pistolero himself.”

Grêmio: Suárez rejuvenesce no Brasil e revive tempos do Barcelona

Suarez has not got long left at Gremio as he has reportedly agreed to reunite with former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

From 2014 to 2020, the duo participated in La Liga matches and had great success during that time.

The two grew close and frequently go on vacation with their families together.

Spain’s El Pais reports that Suarez has communicated with the Major League Soccer team regarding a January transfer.

In order to collaborate with Messi and former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, the 36-year-old striker has been offered a one-year contract.

When his contract with Gremio expires, Suarez is anticipated to travel to Miami the following month to complete the deal.
