On Tuesday, touching images were released of Reds’ No.7 reuniting with his father after a distressing couple of weeks for the Diaz family. Diaz had returned to Colombia for the first time ahead of his country’s World Cup qualifiers later this month.
The pair were visibly emotional – with Diaz’s father in tears – as they embraced in Barranquilla for the first time since the ordeal.
Writing on Instagram on Tuesday night, Diaz said: “Thank you God for allowing us to be together as a family.”

The 26-year-old missed Liverpool’s matches against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth while the search for his father was ongoing in his homeland. However, the forward made a scoring return to Jurgen Klopp’s side during the 1-1 draw with Luton Town earlier this month, connecting with Harvey Elliott’s cross to score a 97th-minute equaliser.
Speaking after his release last week, Mr Diaz revealed he has no intentions to move away from the town of Barrancas despite the kidnɑp and insisted he has “faith” that the Colombian government will provide him and his family with “security” in the region of La Guajira.
