Nick Molnar, a billionaire and co-founder of Afterpay, a digital company, sold the property after initially requesting $28 million. However, because the acquisition was completed on March 31, just one day before the new tax went into effect, Rihanna likely leveraged L.A.’s mansion tax to negotiate a sizable decrease. If the purchase had been finalized in April, Molnar would have owed an additional $1.1 million in taxes.
