The Red Devils drew 3-3 in Istanbul, conceding a two-goal lead twice along the way, and now sit bottom of Group A with just one game remaining. Thus, on December 13, United must defeat Bayern Munich, the winners of the group, at Old Trafford, and hope that Copenhagen and Gala split the spoils in their last match.

And a considerable amount of the blame was lumped at Onana’s feet after he let in two Hakim Ziyech free-kicks, the second of which was all too saveable at this standard. The Cameroonian was spotted looking distraught on the Rams Park pitch after full-time on Wednesday, and social media users couldn’t help but pile more misery on the player.

Onana, 27, looked into the distance with his hands on his hips before ripping his gloves off in frustration. And one spectator couldn’t help themselves as they commented: “He even dropped his gloves….”

Another joked: “I’m not going to lie, I’m not sure Onana is a GK you know.” The midweek disappointment was far from the first time the £52million summer signing has found himself in the headlines for an avoidable mistake during his debut year with United.

While he’ll continue to be berated for his performance in Manchester United’s 3-3 draw to Galatasaray, it’s evident that the game has taken a toll on Andre Onana.
