Following Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United, Jürgen Klopp provided an update on the fitness of Joel Matip and Alexis Mac Allister.
Scan results have indicated that Matip, who was substituted for in the 69th minute of last Sunday’s Reds victory against Fulham at Anfield, had an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Klopp informed the media at Bramall Lane: “It’s an ACL, ruptured, so that’s what I regrettably expected from the first second. That was how it appeared. That is really sad.
Mac Allister, meanwhile, hurt his knee early in Liverpool’s match against Sheffield United and had to wear a hefty brace.
The Argentine midfielder played the whole first half before limping off in the 59th.
“Macca, it was unfortunate,” Klopp said. He cut himself early on as he walked on his knee. We simply strapped it on as long as the wound remained open; it hurt, but he could play nevertheless.
We sewed it, but it became noticeably tighter after that, and he was unable to move after that. The next step is to determine the expected timeframe. Please, not for too long.
