Dynamic combo Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz’s friendship has lasted over a decade, and their fascinating history extends far beyond their music. The fascinating story of how the two rap legends became friends was recently discussed in an interview that aired on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
It all started in a recording studio in Atlanta, where Wayne initially encountered 2 Chainz, alias Deuces. Upon first glance, Wayne perceived 2 Chainz as a chill, college-educated, basketball-playing dude. This serendipitous meeting would initiate an exceptional friendship, but little did Wayne realize it at the time.On Jimmy Fallon’s show, Wayne started telling the host the hilarious story of how they became musical partners as the discussion progressed. As it turns out, Wayne used to get his cannabis from 2 Chainz. “Wayne wanted cannabis,” 2 Chainz joked with a laugh. The audience and Jimmy both laughed at this revelation, which demonstrated the surprising bond between the two musicians.
Wayne went on to describe how, anytime he needed to talk about marijuana while in Atlanta, he would always contact 2 Chainz. A bond based on a mutual appreciation for cannabis, though, soon blossomed into something much more substantial.2
Around 2007, 2 Chainz seized a crucial opportunity to showcase his own talent—his love for rapping—during one of these transactions. He started playing Wayne a song named “Duffle Bag Boy,” and Wayne was hooked from the get-go. He jumped at the chance to work with them since he was so amazed. We went to the studio the second he mentioned rapping, and I wrote the hook for the song “Duffle Bag Boy” as soon as I heard it. The rest, as Wayne put it, is history, illustrating how fate brought them together.T
It was at that moment that Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz became inseparable friends and began a musical journey together that would cement their reputation as a legendary rap team.
