If you’re Magic Johnson, a simple trip to Europe won’t cut it. You need to take a boat to see the continent.
The businessman and NBA great is currently taking it easy on the Aquila, a 281-foot superyacht while cruising around the Mediterranean. The great Lakers player and his wife Cookie have asked a group of famous friends, such as Samuel L. Jackson and LL Cool J, to join them.
TMZ says that Magic likes to spend a month in Europe every summer. For his most recent trip, he went all out. Burgess’s charter tells us that the Aquila is the biggest boat made in the US since the 1930s. The ship was built by the Director in 2010 and went by the name Cakewalk until it was sold and remodeled in 2016. The remodeled four-deck yacht has even more room for people to relax and enjoy the view of cities like Corfu, Capri, and Cervo. It’s great for a very big man and his family and friends.
The yacht has six large guest rooms and a huge owner’s suite with a massage room, salon, and private deck with a view of the bow. There’s also a gym, two more massage rooms, and a place for movies. There is a bar called the London Bar, a beach club at sea level, and a party deck with its own DJ booth, sound system and smoke machine for when it’s time to have fun. There is a 36-foot “waterfall” chandelier that goes from the sun deck to the lower deck and is the showpiece of the inside.
The Aquila also has a car tender, a deck jacuzzi, an aquapark, a trampoline, and all the water toys you could want, like jet skis, kayaks, and wakeboards. The boat has a 50-foot beam, and 28 people are working on it. It has two 3,306 hp MTU engines that give it power. It can go as fast as 17 knots and can cruise at 15 knots.
You probably already know that this boat isn’t cheap. It is said that the ship is worth more than $150 million. The ad says that Johnson is only renting the boat, but that will still cost him almost €1 million (about $1.2 million) a week. There’s no doubt that No. 32 loves being on the Aquila. He has rented the boat before, so this isn’t the first time. A report from TMZ says he also took it on vacation in 2019. Really, who could blame him?
