Jamie Carragher feels certain that one Liverpool player has earned a spot in the starting lineup for this Saturday’s Premier League matchup against Arsenal at the top of the league.
In the Reds’ 5-1 Carabao Cup thumping of West Ham tonight, Curtis Jones helped himself to two goals, a fitting reward for his overall superb performance.
The commentator on Sky Sports argued that Jurgen Klopp “must” start the 22-year-old against the Gunners this coming Saturday.
“There is no doubt for me [Jones] has played himself back into Liverpool’s best 11 and he will be playing against Arsenal at 5:30 [on Saturday],” said Carragher (via Rousing the Kop). He must.
To put it plainly, Jones had no more opportunity to convince Klopp to keep him in the lineup for the Arsenal match against West Ham.
Apart from his two goals, the midfield player also won two duels, took seven shots, completed 62 of 67 passes (93% success rate) and both of his dribbles (Sofascore).
Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic, two long-term absentees, combined with injuries to Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister gave the 22-year-old a chance tonight, and he made the most of it.
Jones will be pumped up for the game against Arsenal, and after tonight’s performance, he deserves to be in Klopp’s starting lineup when Liverpool’s lineup is revealed at 4:30 on Saturday night.
