BIG BOOST: Man Utd is strengthened with the return of Mason Mount in training in the cold rain

Mason Mount has handed Manchester United another boost after he began training on the grass at Carrington again on Wednesday.

Mount has missed the last nine games since suffering a calf injury five weeks ago, but it’s hoped that the England international could return to action early in the New Year as he follows an individual training programme.

The 24-year-old has struggled since joining United from Chelsea for £60million in the summer, registering just one assist and no goals in 12 games for his new club.

This season, Mount’s issues have been emblematic of United’s offensive woes, but in the second half of the team’s Boxing Day victory over Aston Villa, Erik ten Hag’s team found their rhythm as Rasmus Hojlund scored his first Premier League goal, Alejandro Garnacho doubled his team’s tally, and Marcus Rashford returned to form.

Mount completed his training individually in the rain on Wednesday morning as the rest of his team-mates completed a recovery session from their dramatic comeback win over Aston Villa.

He will be hoping to really kickstart his career at Old Trafford after a disappointing start to life in red.
