Goncalo Inacio is reportedly a target for Liverpool to sign during the January transfer window as manager Jurgen Klopp looks to resolve his center-back dilemma.
Joel Matip tore his ACL, ruling him out for the rest of the season. This could imply that he has played his final game for the team before his contract expires in June 2024.
Jarell Quansah, 20, now has a spot in the starting lineup. This is especially significant considering that Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson both suffered major injuries, forcing Joe Gomez to start at left defence.
What are the rumours saying regarding Goncalo Inacio’s proposed transfer to Liverpool?
Due to Matip’s injury, Liverpool is reportedly moving quickly to sign Inacio, who might join the team in January, according to a Daily Mirror story from last week.
According to Portuguese publication A Bola, Sporting Lisbon has accepted that Inacio will leave in January, calling his departure “inevitable,” which raises the possibility that he could join with Liverpool.
With the possibility to win the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and Europa League with the Reds, Inacio would be a lock to start at Anfield.
Of course, it’s still too early to say whether or not Liverpool will bring home a trophy this season, but they’ve put themselves in a strong position to do so after winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in 2022.
While signing a defensive midfielder is still more crucial, Klopp would be in a difficult situation if van DIjk, Gomez, or Quansah were to sustain an injury.
Adding a defensive centre back and midfielder could help the Merseysiders at a pivotal time, as this season offers a genuine chance to win the league title once more.
