At the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid defeated Mallorca to start 2024, but Carlo Ancelotti’s team struggled mightily for much of the ninety minutes as they were outmatched by the visitors.

The game-winning goal was ultimately scored by Antonio Rudiger with a superb header in the 78th minute. Real Madrid has been furious up to that point, particularly after replacement Brahim Diaz blew a golden opportunity for the home team just minutes earlier.

Brahim’s first attempt was palmed into his path by Rodrygo, and he somehow managed to head the ball onto the post from six yards out with the goal open. It is without a doubt one of the season’s biggest misses thus far.

Thankfully, Brahim and Real Madrid overcame the miss and went on to win, extending their lead over Girona to three points at the top of the La Liga standings for the time being.
