Paris Saint-Germain beat Toulouse 2-0 to win the Coupe des Champions. Kylian Mbappe scored a great goal, and Lee Kang-in also scored.

PSG scored the first goal at the Parc des Princes in less than three minutes, and they did it in style: Lee stabbed home Ousmane Dembele’s volleyed cross after a smooth team move.ImageImage

Toulouse had a hard time getting out of their own half, but when they did, Thijs Dallinga hit the post, giving PSG a small sense that the game was still alive.

Before halftime, Mbappe pretty much decided the game. He picked up the ball 25 yards from goal, ran past three players, held off another, and fired expertly past the goalkeeper.

In the second half, Toulouse was the better team, but they could not score because PSG was happy to keep the game under control. Achraf Hakimi almost scored a third goal from a long free kick, but it hit the post.

It is the record 12th Trophee des Champions win for PSG, and the team hopes this is just the start of many more wins this season. The Parisians are five points ahead of second-placed Revel in Ligue 1. They will play Real Sociedad in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and will begin their Coupe de France challenge on Sunday against a team from the sixth level.

AT THIS POINT, LUIS ENRIQUE WINS HIS FIRST PSG TROPHY

PSG managers are mostly rated on how well they do in the UEFA Champions League, and they also have to win domestic trophies. That is a first for the new boss, whose team has not always been great this season.

PSG’s performance was one of their best of the season, and their new signings, especially Dembele and Lee, shone in a great attacking showing that shows they have a bright future ahead of them. Lucas Beraldo, who is 20 years old, also looked good in his short start in the middle of defense.

There will not be much praise for Luis Enrique, but this was a big night for his work to change PSG.

KYLIAN MBAPPE (PSG) was named Player of the Match.

Mbappe scored a great goal when PSG was having a hard time getting that all-important second goal. Away from the goal, he also played good link-up with others, and Mbappe’s presence made room for Lee, Dembele, and others.

PSG’s player ratings are as follows: Donnarumma 6, Hakimi 7, Skriniar 5, Marquinhos 7, Hernández 5, Vitinha 7, Zaire-Emery 6, Barcola 5, Lee 8, Dembele 7, Mbappe 8. Beraldo scores seven goals and Asensio scores six.

Toulon: Restes 7, Mawissa 5, Diarra 6, Nicolaisen 5, Suazo 5, Casseres 6, Spierings 5, Gelabert 5, Donnum 6, Sierro 5, Dallinga 7. Magri 4, Skytta 6, Kamanzi 5, and Cissoko 4 were brought on as substitutes.

MATCH STARTS WITH GOAL! TOULOUSE 1-0 PSG (LEE) 3′: PSG takes the lead in style! Vitinha makes a great cross-field pass to Dembele, who volleys the ball back across the goal, and Lee cleans up the play.

NOT IN THE POST! 37th minute: Dallinga’s long-range shot is stopped, but he makes a smart run afterward, is found by Donnum, and takes a first-time shot that Donnarumma tips onto the near post.

GOAL! PSG beat Toulouse 2-0 (MBAPPE). 44′: Mbappe did a great job! When Mbappe gets the ball 25 yards from goal, he dribbles past three players and into the box. He then holds off a fourth defender and shoots into the far corner! Not stoppable.

NOT IN THE POST! 56′: Hakimi sets up a free kick 35 yards out, hits it hard, and sees the ball bounce off the post. That would have been a great goal, but Restes was not even close to it.
