Manchester United have endured a highly turbulent first half of the season and you would be clutching at straws if you attempted to pick a player or two as standout figures.
So that’s exactly what we’re going to do. The majority of players have regressed since the promising 2022/23 season when United ended their six-year wait for silverware.
That season also culminated in a third-place finish in the Premier League – that is looking increasingly unlikely this year as Erik ten Hag’s men continue to plummet down the table due to their inconsistent form.
One player has, however, made serious strides in his development and that’s Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho was in and out of the team last year due to Marcus Rashford’s sparkling form but now, he’s the first-choice option on the left wing.
Now, before United’s first fixture of 2023, United have announced on their official website that Garnacho is the latest recipient of the Player of the Month award after winning it in November
The winner of the award is chosen each month by the supporters, with Garnacho beating Jonny Evans and Kobbie Mainoo with his dominant 64% of votes.
Garnacho was directly involved in four goals in December, accounting for more than half of the goals scored by United in the twelfth month of the year.
His two goals came on Boxing Day at Aston Villa, where he scored a second-half brace to spark a spectacular comeback against Unai Emery’s team before Rasmus Hojlund scored the winner.
