Manchester City and PUMA have just unveiled a special edition capsule in celebration of the Year of the Wood Dragon — and it blends 20 years of the Etihad Stadium’s rich history and celebrate the Lunar New Year in several Asian countries.
The collection’s highlight comes in the form of the bespoke jersey and it’s designed with hand-drawn, wood-carved illustrations that artfully intertwine the strength of the Wood Dragon with the architectural splendor of the Etihad’s turrets.
The kit featuring a dragon wrapped around the shirt and the jacket and T-shirt featuring a dragon wrapped around the Man City crest.
The reason why the Manchester City 2024 Luna New Year shirt features a dragon design is because the 2024 Lunar Year is the year of the dragon according to Eastern cultural beliefs.
The authentic jersey is crafted with cutting-edge technology to provide optimal performance and comfort on the pitch, with the kit featuring a 4-way stretch design that reduces weight and friction, allowing players to move freely and comfortably.
Coming as a jersey that strives to encapsulate progress, success, and auspicious beginnings, the kit also comes alongside an all-new dragon-inspired jacket and track pants.
“In designing this collection, we’ve paid homage to the iconic symbols of strength and endurance that resonate with Manchester City fans — the dragon and the famous Etihad turrets,” Marco Mueller, PUMA’s Senior Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Apparel, said.
“Our aim was to create a design that fans would wear with pride, reflecting their unwavering support and the cultural richness that the Year of the Wood Dragon brings to the community.”
You can take a closer look at the new Manchester City jersey above and fans will be able to see the kit IRL when Manchester City Women take on Manchester United in the Continental Cup on January 24.
