‘Born to concede’ – Fans mocked Andre Onana as Man Utd star made 2 ‘disastrous’ saves in Cameroon’s loss over Senegal

FANS ridiculed Andre Onana after blaming the Manchester United keeper for Senegal’s opener in their 3-1 AFCON win.

Onana was labelled “born to concede goals” as he mis-timed a punch and was rooted to the spot when Ismaila Sarr drilled home the loose ball.

Little has gone right for the under-fire Old Trafford No1 recently – despite his extraordinary efforts to go the extra mile for club and country.

Onana, 27, dashed to the airport after playing in United’s 2-2 home draw with Tottenham last Sunday.

But bad weather held up his private jet, so he missed Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations opener on Monday, a 1-1 stalemate with Guinea.

And it got worse for United’s summer signing on Friday night.

After just 16 minutes against Senegal, he could only jab the ball away – enabling Sarr to turn and rifle home through a crowded penalty box.

Sadio Mane put the seal on the defending champions’ victory in the fourth minute of stoppage time with a first-time finish which rolled rather than rocketed into the net, with Onana reacting late and unable to get a hand to it despite the shot being far from powerful.

Onana’s view of the shot might well have been partly obstructed but one fan responded: “Complete definition of addiction to conceding goals.”

Another said: “Onana has just let a goal in…some things never change.”

Some critics questioned why the stopper’s feet appeared stuck when Sarr turned to shoot – once calling him a “mannequin”.

Similar observations included: “Does Onana dive for anything?” and “Not like Onana not to move….”

And with the Red Devils seventh in the Premier League, having let in 29 goals in 21 games, many United fans doubt the value of his £47million summer arrival.

One claimed: “I had enough of Onana in the last 10 games, truth be told we made a mistake of a signing.”

But the former Inter Milan hero also has his supporters, with one saying: “It’s not his fault – it’s the defenders.”

With Cameroon now having just one point from two AFCON group games, one fan joked: “Onana will catch a quick flight back to England.”

Senegal’s lead was doubled on minute 71 by Habib Diallo thanks to a well-placed cross by Marseille’s Sarr.

They missed two easy chances to tie the score after Jean-Charles Castelletto of Cameroon headed them back into the contest.

But Senegal’s game-winning goal came in stoppage time when Idrissa Gueye broke free to set up Sadio Mane, the former striker for Liverpool.
