‘Why he hasn’t been subbed off’ – Theo Walcott was unhappy with Arteta’s use of Bukayo Saka as Arsenal starboy was repeatedly fouled by Crystal Palace

On the BBC, Theo Walcott raised questions about Mikel Arteta’s use of Bukayo Saka.

Bukayo Saka is Arsenal’s biggest attacking threat. He has scored 6 goals and contributed 7 assists in 20 Premier League matches this season.

But some people have been concerned about the Asrenal star not getting enough rest and that could be the reason for Saka’s decline in form. The Crystal Palace clash at the Emirates was originally the perfect opportunity for Mikel Arteta to take Saka out when the Gunners led 3-0 after 59 minutes.

However, Arteta decided to keep his student on the field for the entire match, even though he used all 5 substitutions. Witnessing that, former Arsenal player Theo Waltcott asked the BBC:

“As a player now I look at the bigger picture and wonder why Saka hasn’t been subbed off yet.

“The sort of player he is, the fact he gets kicked all over the pitch most games, Trossard has just come off, but Saka with all the games he plays is still out there.”

Arsenal complain to PGMOL over Saka treatment

Arsenal made a formal complaint to PGMOL earlier this month amid concerns Saka was not being adequately protected by referees. The Gunners believe that referees need to apply stronger deterrent measures so that Saka does not become a victim of repeated tackles.
