Marcus Rashford of Manchester United is urging people to participate in Unicef’s Water Walk by using his platform.
Little children in some parts of the world “have to choose between going to school” and “providing clean water for their families,” according to the 26-year-old, who called this “mind blowing.”
The England forward is urging supporters to gather money in order to improve the lives of the over 2 billion people who lack access to safe and clean drinking water.
In order to raise awareness of the nearly 260 million people who travel for more than 30 minutes every day to acquire clean water, Unicef is organizing the Water travel, which encourages participants to walk five miles every day for one week in September.
Marcus stated: “It blows my mind that in this day and age millions of people across the world have to walk for miles just to access clean water.” Marcus can cover five miles on a football field in 75 minutes on average.
We often take for granted the ability to walk to the kitchen and grab a fresh drink of water whenever we like, but sadly, not everyone has that luxury.
“I wanted to use my platform to bring attention to this so I’m asking that people sign up to Unicef UK’s Water Walk to help raise as much money as possible so young children don’t have to choose between going to school or playing with their friends, and providing clean water for their families.”
With the money generated, Unicef can install water pumps and pipes to ensure children have access to safe, clean drinking water. The charity’s goal is to ensure that by 2030, no kid will have to walk more than 30 minutes round trip to get water.
